National Technology Day is celebrated to mark India’s technological advancements.
On this day In 1998,India tested two nuclear bombs in Indian Army’s Pokhran range as a part of the Operation Shakti initiative (Pokhran-I was the 1974 test firing of “‘Smiling Buddha’ missile”
Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee declared India a full fledged nuclear state. This operation was called ‘Operation Shakti’ and it made India the 6th country to join the nuclear club.It was not the only milestone India achieved that day,
On the same day,National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) tested country’s first indigenous aircraft, the Hansa-3 in Bengaluru.
Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) successfully carried out the final test-fire of the Trishul missile Later on, it was inducted into service by the Indian Army and Indian Airforce.
These tremendous achievements made PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee declare the day as National technology day.
