Indians prefer shopping from USA for high fashion brands-Here is the reason
Two years ago when I was returning from USA, my nieces and nephews gave me a list of things that I should buy for them. I realized that all the things listed were clothing and related fashion accessories’. Now these things you get it in India as well, why stuff my suitcases. I kept telling this to my kiddos and they kept explaining me that how it matters for them to have it from ‘The States’.
The list included clothes and other stuffs like shoes, Perfumes, watches, lingerie etc. from DKNY, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, Guess, Gap, Lee, Levi’swhich are globally known to XOXO, Wrangler, Aeropostale, Banana Republic, Kenneth Cole, Old Navy, Ralph Lauren to name the few. I was lost. Staying there for a decade now I rarely wore these products. Some brands mentioned in their list were expensive even here. I decided to enlighten myself through them as to why Indians like to shop the USA products.
I started from the youngest member of the list writer:
Mini aged 13 – it’s cool, my friends buy it from there. And they really are different.
I realized that its peer pressure. She at this age must not be knowing the brand unless someone have educated her on it.
Maithili aged 21 – Maasi, these brands are globally known, we get it here too but they are exorbitantly expensive for me. They are fresh, trendy, long lasting. You look smart and different.
I understood that it is attraction towards the international market and products. Indians love to buy from International market and USA is a heaven for all this.
I turned to the oldest in the group.
Madhav aged 26 – he told me in a convincing way. Why shop every six months for a jeans when you can buy one which lasts for years. Why not wear a Ray Ban sun glasses to protect your eyes than a plastic make. Why not use a good pair of shoes which will last longer. He told me that we are aware that one gets good quality stuff locally also,but, apart from the reasons that Mini and Maithili has given you, look it in my way too.
- Product Quality – High fashion brands are usually made from better raw materials and have best finishing and detailing. Thus making their products go high on quality.
- Reliability – They are reliable and take the ownership of the final product. Their consistency is also upto the mark. There will be consistency also in sizes and colors etc.
- Identity and social status – what you wear represents who you are.
People these days do not mind paying more for brands because you get more in terms of quality. Madhav further added that if we buy from the land of origin (here it means US) it is going to cost less and also get original stuff. The most advantage to shop in the US market is that there is continuous sale season. You name a month and there will be an ongoing sale. Many tourists visiting the USA on vacation enjoy shopping for bargains.
Thanksgiving and Christmas have the most discounts on any given products. And hence it is always cheaper as compared to what you buy in India.
With a roar in his laughter and hinting towards me he said that,“If you have someone who will deliver the same in your hands at no extra cost than it is definitely worth it”.
Putting an end to my conversation with them, I realized that the reasons these youngsters had given, is more than enough for me to stuff my suitcase with their bucket list.

the Aadhaar-based mobile app for digital payments using bio metric data
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched BHIM-Aadhar platform – a biometric-based payment system – in Nagpur. BHIM-Aadhaar Pay app will allow users to make payments through the fingerprint scanner, by authenticating the biometric details of a user with Aadhaar database.
BHIM, also known as Bharat Interface for Money, was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi three months ago to provide a tool that can be a one-stop solution for all digital payments.
The app, which will be available for download to merchants across the country, will link your Aadhaar number and biometic fingerprint to complete a transaction. To enable the transactions through BHIM-Aadhar, merchants will have to purchase fingerprint scanners.
BHIM Aadhar is a new Aadhar Payment App is a new Android smartphone application being launched by the Narendra Modi government to encourage the use of digital payments. BHIM Aadhar Pay smartphone payment app would also eliminate the fee currently being charged by the private card companies such as ‘MasterCard‘ and ‘Visa’.
Aadhar Pay App is need to be installed by merchants only i.e. only the shopkeepers, showrooms need to install aadhar pay app and the users who wants to pay using aadhar pay only need to link their aadhar number with their bank accounts. Shopkeepers/ Merchant can download aadhar pay to take payments from customers from their aadhar linked bank accounts using their biometric scan.
Merchants would be required to download the BHIM Aadhar Pay payment app on their android smartphone connected to a biometric reader. The biometric reader is currently available for just Rs 2000. If a customer wants to make payment, then he/she just need to enter his Aadhar Number in the app and select the bank from which the payment is to be made and use the biometric scan as the password for the transaction.
